EAVFM Lantern Parade?

My neighborhood, East Atlanta, has a one day per week farmer’s market which is open from mid April through mid December.  Tonight, in honor of the upcoming Earth Day, the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market will be holding a lantern parade.

Let me get this straight: in honor of Earth Day people are going to be burning fires releasing more greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere as a show of, what, our disdain for mother earth?  Aside from being a greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide is a principal cause of acid rain.  But, it’s not only atmospheric water that’s absorbing the excess carbon dioxide.  Our oceans are taking the brunt of this excess.  This is leading to the acidification of our oceans and endangering the oceanic ecosystem: the foundation of the planet’s ecosystem as a whole.

Way to think this one all the way through, hippies!
