I know people are just riveted following my venture to purchase
and out of print EP, (You’re paying for the whole seat, but you only need the
edge!) so here’s an update.
I continued making bids on the item in question on eBay, and
I continued to be outbid time and again.
I also perused sites like Discogs and, on a friend’s advice, Gemm
looking to see what was available. When
available, the EP was always above my self-imposed limit.
Eventually, I stumbled across one on Discogs. It’s was a vinyl release, black, from the
2008 Hyperrealist repressing of First and Second, not the more recent Relapse
release that came on opaque purple or yellow vinyl. It was only twelve dollars, plus shipping, so
I jumped on it. Having a legitimate copy
on vinyl will let me feel better about having a digital copy on my iPod.
I did, however, still have bids out on eBay. I didn’t think I would have to worry about
that, though. Surely I would be outbid
as I was time and again, right? After so
many failed attempts I couldn’t possibly have won an auction this time. As quickly as these have been snatched up,
and at such a high price, no one could feasibly let me have this for just fifteen
dollars.
There are now two copies of this EP on their way to me, one
the vinyl release described above and the other on CD. The seller claims this is an original
pressing from the initial Hyperrealist release.
I guess I’ll see what it really is when it arrives.
Last week I had no copies, next week I will have two. So…
