I learned a couple of things this past week, both more or
less about myself.
1. I’ve watched the Lord of the Rings many, many times since
the movies have been released. There’s a
scene in The Fellowship of the Ring where the fellowship are walking into
Lothlorien. Gimli, the dwarf, warns the
Hobbits, saying something like, “They say that a great sorceress lives in these
woods, an Elf-witch, of terrible power.”
I always say, without fail, “mmm, Elfwich.” Does Keebler still make those?
2. I’ve got an Android phone, a GS4. I’ve got one of those swipe-style keyboards
installed: Swype, Swiftkey, or one of the many others, I don’t recall. It’s one of those keyboards where you don’t type;
instead you use gestures across the keyboard to spell out words. The keyboards come with common words and swipe
patterns, but adjust based on usage. So,
I was trying to send a text with the word “hanging” but my phone decided that what
I really wanted to type was “Gandalf.” I
think it’s telling that my phone thinks I will be sending enough texts with the
name “Gandalf” that it needed to be memorized.
